( Étude No. 1 ) Video/Action for New Bark

[When the feed begins, the image is a bit blurry and shaky as the Igglybuff holding it can barely stand still, it's just too heavy. It's pretty amazing that she hasn't dropped it yet, actually. The image may be far from perfect but there's definitely nothing wrong with audio:]

Open the door! It's so unfair!! And you're calling yourself a mother?!

[Is she's going to hold a grudge on this "mom" person for not letting her eat breakfast? Yes.

Then, Igglybuff cries out, trying to get the yelling girl's attention, but with no luck. However, the Pokémon finally finds a way to steady the image a little by putting the Pokégear on the ground, while she holds its both sides. The image finally becomes more focused; there's a girl standing in front of the door...and she's about to kick them when Igglybuff squeaks once again, louder this time. Only then she gives Igglybuff her attention.]

Is something wrong? H-Hey, when did you turn that on?

[She leaps forward to cover the camera with both of her hands. What an introduction. After clearing her throat twice, she pulls her hands away and flashes a grin.]

Umm...sorry about that? Anyway! I'm Kaori Miyazono, I've just arrived here...and I'm not sure what to do? All I know is that I'm supposed to go on an adventure!

[It seems like she has already accepted the situation she found herself in...]

It's far, faaar away from here anyway...according to the map, at least. Just checked!

[Even though she's relieved that the device isn't broken, it doesn't mean she's less surprised.]

[Obviously she's speaking to the Pokémon. Just one conversation without interrupting and pinching, is she asking for too much?]

You sure know a lot of stuff, by the way! May I ask how long have you been here?

Wow, you certainly ended up with a very aggressive starter. At least this means you shouldn't have to worry about the wild Pokémon along the way.

[It's a tiny silver lining but it's better than nothing, right?]

It's been about... three years and a half, almost. A long stay, but far from one of the longest.

Not all of them are that aggress—That's good to hear!

[This time she picks up and squeezes Igglybuff tight in her arms, preventing her from pinching her...to much, at least.]

Three years and a half? T-That's a lot?! No wonder you know all these things...! But...you like it here, right? I wonder if I'll get used to living here, it's a bit different from the place I come from...

[Not that much different, but still.]

I'm sure you will. This place has its weird moments, like that time it rained cats and dogs, but mostly it offers many opportunities to travel and meet people. You get to go whereever you want, live wherever you want, and if you want to adopt fifty cats the locals will only encourage you.

[All of this sound just too good to be real, especially...]

Fifty cats?! Whoa...! I mean...one or two...three tops would be fine for starters...

The rest sounds really great too...traveling, meeting new people, living freely, it's just like a dream come true!

[She pouncing all over the place and the image is getting a bit shaky for a moment.]

Speaking of cats...maybe I should try to find a Pokémon that looks like a cat first! I always wanted one...

[All that enthusiasm gets a laugh out of Ash.]

Luckily for you, there's plenty of cats out there, waiting for someone to pick them up and feed them every day. But if you're going to start with only one, I recommend a Meowth. They can learn a move to generates money out of nowhere.

[Gotta feed 'em all...!]

Poor kitties...I'll be sure to give them something good. And maybe pick up a few, too...wait a second, generate money? Like...POOF?! And you're rich?!

[She has never been a materialist, but now she has to buy food for herself, no parents to pay for her...]

It's not quite that easy, since using moves over and over tires them out and the payout depends on their level. But yes, if your level 100 Meowth uses Pay Day, you'll get P10000 immediately. Sounds nicer than selling fries and drinks, doesn't it?

[There's no telling what surprised her more: being able to train Pokémon to such high level or being able to get so much money at once. Of course, she has no idea if P10000 is that much here, but ten thousand are quite impressive anyway.]

Just don't tell me that people are keeping them just because of this Pay Day thing...

[If that's the case, she's already planning to track them down and give them a lesson.]

Of course not. Meowths are excellent battlers, excellent companions, and excellent foot heaters in the winter. The money's just a pleasant bonus.

[And a very useful one, too, especially right before Christmas.]

Besides, if they're mistreated or unloved, their claws are sharp enough to teach a lesson to any squishy human.

[That's a good thing to hear, actually. And it means she can leave avenging all poorly treated cats for later...]

Having one really sounds like a win-win situation! I just have to catch one using this, right?

[Apparently, she's been looking for something in her bag in the meantime. Shortly, Kaori opens her hand in which she's holding the Poké Balls to the camera.]

You're a great help, you know?

That's exactly it! You weaken the cat, you throw a ball at the cat, you keep the cat and feed the cat and snuggle with the cat at night.

[He can't be the only one that does that, right?]

Glad I could be of use. I know showing up here and trying to understand what's going on isn't always easy. But every little piece of information helps, right?

[She'll see to it if it's really that easy sooner or later. Snuggling part definitely sounds best.]

Sure, that'd be great. Want to make it a feline playdate? I've got a Persian that would love to teach a newly-caught cousin how to most efficiently beg for food, and how to open the fridge silently.

[...Is that supposed to be a reason to meet up, or a reason to stay very far away...?]

Awesome! I'll let you know when I find one! I just hope I won't end up with all my Pokémon being cats...

[The chances that it'll happen are pretty high, though.]

At least I'll know who to blame when one day I'll wake up with absolutely no food in my bag...

[Despite saying that, she doesn't mind at all. Moreover, she's grinning.]

Hey, waking up with no food in just your bag is a sign that you have very reasonable Pokémon. With certain species, you have to consider yourself lucky if there's any food left within a kilometre.

[Snorlax, he's looking at you.]

Is having a full team of cats truly so bad? Unless you'd really like to train birds and fish, too...

W-What...hey, I've been called a glutton a few times in my life, but this...?!

[What species are capable of doing something like that?]

Oh, I didn't mean it as a bad thing! I just don't want to discriminate other Pokémon.

[But cats...the struggle is real.]

Snorlax is a delightful creature and a wonderful travel mattress. Snorlax is also likely to eat you out of house and home, if given half a chance.

[Or just a hundredth of a chance, for that matter.]

How kind. They're somewhat used to it, though. Many trainers have favorite types or species.

[Kaori's holding her breath at Snorlax is also likely to eat you, glad to hear that it isn't the end of the sentence.]

I bet it snores too, given its name...

[What a good deduction.]

I don't think I can openly say that I love cats, you know...

[She's subtly pointing at Igglybuff when it's not looking.]

Let's just it's not called the Sleeping Pokémon for nothing. Gullet even managed to fall asleep while he was surfing down a river.

I think she'd like some attention...

[Igglybuff has been restlessly squirming in her arms for a while now and Kaori really can't tell what's going to happen if she lets her feel ignored.

She heard about flamethrower, after all. What if Igglybuff could somehow learn it without that disc when she'll become really angry?
